DeckerMed Africa Trust in Tharaka Nithi

DeckerMed Africa Trust was hosted by Hon. Patrick Munene, The Vice Chair of the Health Committee at The National Assembly.

We established ways of working together to strengthen the health systems in the country. We discussed at length the impact of cancers in our communities especially Tharaka Nithi.

DeckerMed, Hon. Munene’s Office and Fit for Future are planning to partner for a major medical camp in August where we shall screen for various cancers in Tharaka Nithi. The camp which will serve as DeckerMed’s Maiden Trip to Tharaka Nithi, will be in honor of Hon. Munene’s Daughter, makena who died at a tender age of 10 from Cancer.

“This partnership is deeply personal and profoundly impactful,” said Esther Baraga, Director of Development at DeckerMed Africa Trust. “By honoring Makena’s memory through action, we are creating a space for healing, awareness, and hope for many families in Tharaka Nithi.”

The medical camp aims to screen over 800 community members, and will include health education, referrals for follow-up care, and a dedicated counseling space for individuals and families affected by cancer.

Hon. Munene emphasized the importance of decentralizing cancer care:
“Makena’s story is one shared by many. This camp is not just a tribute to her, but a rallying call to ensure others don’t suffer in silence or die unnecessarily from treatable diseases.”

Preparations are underway, and DeckerMed Africa Trust invites partners, health professionals, and donors to join this powerful community initiative.
